Imagine
two sisters living for nearly 100 years in the same home, supporting
themselves selling minnows & worms, and seeing their hometown,
deep in the Northwoods, go from the boom of the lumber years-- to
ghost town-- to remote, rustic fishing community.
The
lumber mill and all but one of the original houses are gone now. Star
Lake stands today much as it did 80+ years ago with one store, one
bait shop, 2 resorts, one restaurant, and a bar. The only exception--the
Fredrickson Minnow Shack is now closed for business and Edith &
Hazel Fredickson have left us--but not in spirit.
The
Fredrickson's-- or "the girls" as they were called, taught
us much. They lived a warm & simple life-- never complaining nor
wanting for more. They left us all with a sincere appreciation for
our Northwood's haven. Life is simple. Life is good.
The
Girls will be missed-- but now, through our memories and the Friends
of the Fredrickson Foundation, we hope to capture their spirit by
commemorating them and embracing our Star Lake history by making the
Bait Shop, the Girls turn of the century home and Star Lake School
House museums. In
addition, the Foundation plans to sponsor Internships for the Northwoods
Wildlife Center in honor of the Girls love for animals. We think
this would have made the Girls very happy.
You can now own a piece of The Girls legacy and lend your support
to the Foundation. The Foundation has commissioned custom jewelry
created from The Girls own antique jewelry collection. Consider
buying a piece of the Girls jewelry, purchasing vintage photo
reproductions, or making a donation to the cause. Your support is
very much appreciated.
