Bob & Harry Starr (lake & town eventually named for), under instructions from Hamilton Salich of the lumber company chose & started construction on what is now known as the North Star Lodge.

Eugene Shepard, Cruiser for Goodyear Lumber Company, and built and ran the Ferncroft Resort on Ballard Lake--the real home of the "Hodag.".

Shepard sold Ferncroft to H.L. Atkins.

Ferncroft sold to Joseph Rothschild whom later leased the resort to Ole Rismon.
Salich Lodge operated as Hotel Waldheim and managed by Mr. Laut.
Ole Rismon built started his own resort on Ballard Lake. Ferncroft abandoned.
Olivers purchased Hotel Waldheim and renamed to Oliver Lodge.
Joseph Aldous took over Oliver lodge and closed for duration of war.
Oliver Lodge purchased by Theel and Trollan familes, changed name to North Star Lodge and opened for business in May of 1945.
Theel's ran North Star Lodge until sold to Thomas Moorhead.
The Hintz family (long time Star Lake vacationers) purchased North Star Lodge and continue to run to this day.
1981
Ferncroft Lodge demolished.
2000
Rismon Lodge dismantled and sold off as vacation homes.
